Working collaboratively with an architecture student, together we designed, constructed, and animated a 3D train model inspired by modern aircraft and spacecraft in Maya.

This coursework has allowed me to explore techniques and theory used in 3D modelling and animation—touching on cinematography, visual narrative, and practical skills such as rendering objects and environments.

Research

The project outlines that the train model and station design must be inspired from St. Petersburg, Russia. Drawing inspiration from Soviet Union’s avant-garde planetary exploration in the 20th century, we looked into aircraft and spacecraft designs at the time. Furthermore, our station design is also inspired by the architectural construction of St. Peterburg’s international airport: Pulkovo International Airport.

Reflection

I learned to translate the conceptual approach to design into relevant contextual elements in the 3D environment. This project served as a good foundation for any further work in 3D modelling.
